Budget Approved! LUT Board Candidates Victorious!

With over 63% approval, the 2021-2022 Levittown District budget was approved. Though voter turnout was down significantly from last year - 7,540 residents voted in the June 2020 election - members of the Levittown community who did vote overwhelming supported the exceptional work of their schools and were willing to fund those efforts with their tax dollars.
In addition to the budget approval, the Levittown community also re-elected both of the LUT endorsed Board of Education candidates; Marianne Adrian and James Moran.

Across the state several teacher unions were successful in leading union endorsed candidates to victory and getting budgets passed in their districts. 99% of all district budgets in New York State passed. In addition, 14 of 19 districts were successful in earning the supermajority of 60% approval needed to exceed the state property tax cap. All of these numbers bode well for the future of public education in New York.

The convincing margins of victory in Levittown for both the budget and the winning candidates was due in no small part to the successful political activism of the LUT in support of the best interests of our students and our schools. Using lawn signs, social media advertisements, phone banking, billboard trucks and good, old fashioned, grass roots, person to person conversations amongst members of the Levittown community, the LUT and LRT (Levittown Retired Teachers) played an active role in getting the word out about keeping our schools well-funded and led by experienced board members who advocate for the best interests of our students, teachers and staff.

Please take a look at the article later in this newsletter with the list of names of LUT and LRT members who were the top callers in our Phone Banking Brigade. Thank you to these top callers and everyone who worked the phones. Congratulations and thanks should also go out to our Political Action Vice President, John Lipani, for being the driving force behind all of our political activities. We are all stronger when we stand together. Once again, we stood together and stood as tall as ever. Well done, LUT!
