Change is coming to the Board of Regents

At the end of March, long time Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents, Meryl Tisch, and current Vice Chancellor, Anthony Bottar, are stepping down from their positions.  Tisch has long been an unabashed supporter of the Governor's educational policies, policies which have been - in the opinion of the Governor's own hand-picked task force - a disaster for public education in New York State.

The opportunity to name new leadership to the Board of Regents brings with it a chance to help reshape the dialogue in education reform to one which focused less on standardized testing and flawed common core curriculum and more on educating the whole child with greater input from teachers.  The New York State Allies for Public Education - a group that has led the way in the fight against the Governor's flawed education reforms, has now endorsed Dr. Betty Rosa to take over the position of Chancellor and Beverly Ouderkirk to take over the position of Vice Chancellor when Tisch and Bottar step down.  Several other prominent organizations have joined in the NYSAPE in their endorsement.
