Let's face it, while education remains in many ways the important, rewarding career it's always been, funding shortfalls, testing and evaluation problems, senseless regulatory interference by federal and state politicians, bafflingly complex certification requirements and a host of other issues are creating more and more difficult challenges for educators. As a result, far too many early career educators leave the field after only a few years.

NYSUT, your statewide union, is well aware of the difficulties early career educators face every day and, working together with your local association, we want to do more to help you overcome these problems.

To that end, the NYSUT Nassau Regional Office has organized a special full-day conference for early career educators on Saturday, February 3rd at the Huntington Hilton in Melville. (An early career educator is defined as anyone in the FIRST FIVE YEARS of his/her career.) Your local president or union rep may already have told you about this opportunity, but in case they haven't gotten to you yet, we want to make sure you know about it. This conference will not solve all the problems you face, but it will certainly serve as a good introduction to the many resources NYSUT offers to help early career educators achieve more successful, fulfilling and enjoyable careers.

We also want to learn from you. Throughout the conference, we will run a series of moderated discussions with conference participants in an effort to hear your concerns, understand your needs and be better prepared to provide the services you want.

There will also be display tables where you can stop by, pick up information and chat informally with representatives from various NYSUT departments, NYSUT Member Benefits and a number of NYSUT-approved vendors that provide services of interest to educators.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided and all conference participants are invited to stay for a cocktail reception at the conclusion of the conference. All in all, we think this will be a useful, informative and fun day for our many early career educators.

And here's the best part: We normally charge a fee for attendance at our regional conferences, but there is NO CHARGE to attend this conference! All you have to do is register. (Please disregard any reference on the registration site to a $35 attendance fee. We are eliminating that fee.)

To register just click on the following link: http://www.cvent.com/d/1tq3fl

Because of space limitations at the hotel, the number of conference participants is capped, so don't delay registering. If you are unable to register because we have reached our attendance limit, you will be placed on a waiting list. If enough people end up on the waiting list we will try to schedule a second conference date.
