Save Your Pension! - Vote NO on a Constitutional Convention!

The New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) has been nothing short of a model for other similar systems to emulate.

As the graphic shows, over the past 20 years - despite the worst financial crises since the Great Depression - the NYSTRS nearly doubled its assets through responsible management and investment practices.

The NYSTRS is the gold standard for pension systems. Being a member of the NYSTRS is a benefit provided to all LUT members by state law. We have earned this benefit and managed it well over the years to betterment of education professionals across our state.

Unfortunately, this can all change next fall if our state votes in favor of a Constitutional Convention. It should be a surprise to no one that the money in our pension system is something politicians in Albany would love to get their hands on. A vote to "open the constitution" would allow Albany to make changes not only to our pension system, but to a wide range of benefits and laws that all New Yorkers now take for granted.

Please take a look at the video below and educate yourself to the issues at stake in the upcoming vote on a Constitutional Convention. Our campaign to vote against the convention is underway in earnest right now because this issue is so important to the protection of so much of what our profession has worked for and earned.

Conversations about politics amongst friends and family are never easy. But, if we don't educate and advocate for the best interests of our profession, who will? No one can afford to sit this one out. Be sure to do your part to make sure our state votes NO to a Constitutional Convention next November.
