A poll published by Gallup last month gives labor unions a 64% approval rating nation-wide. This approval rating is over 60% for the third consecutive year and marks a 16% increase since 2009.
The current 64% reading is one of the highest union approval ratings Gallup has recorded for labor unions over the past 50 years, topped only in the March 1999 (66%), August 1999 (65%) and August 2003 (65%) surveys.
The steady increase in union support reported by Gallup crosses all political party lines. For Democrats, Republicans and Independents, union approval has increased substantially with ratings in each party all rising over the past 3 years and all increasing by at least 16% over the last 10 years.
Despite consistent efforts by corporate America to take a larger piece of the economic pie created on the backs of hard-working union members, unions continue to grow stronger and are seeing an increase in popularity and support across the country.
It can certainly be argued, at this point, that the negative impact predicted by experts because of the Spring of 2018 Supreme Court ruling in Janus v. ASCFME has been mitigated. In fact, the ruling has not only not hurt labor unions, it has made them stronger and even more popular than they have been in years!
