AFT convention delegates overwhelmingly approved a major resolution on July 19 that is designed to help turn the promise of the Every Student Succeeds Act into a constructive reality for schools—one that resets the test-and-punish climate that for too long has burdened students, educators and schools under ESSA's predecessor law, the No Child Left Behind Act. The resolution, "Taking Action on the Promise of the Every Student Succeeds Act," is a rallying cry for immediate engagement of rank-and-file members and affiliates in the fight to implement ESSA wisely. That work begins now—members are urged to join a petition calling for strong, effective and fair accountability rules under ESSA. Add your voice before the Aug. 1 deadline!
