On Tuesday, May 7, the Levittown Retired Teachers held their spring luncheon meeting at Domenico's Restaurant in Levittown.

The guest speaker for the luncheon was Mireille Taub. Mrs. Taub is a retired literacy specialist who volunteers as an Educator/Docent at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County.  The Center presents the David Taub Reel Upstanders Film Series throughout the year in memory of her husband, David Taub. The goal of the series is to promote tolerance and acceptance of others.

Mrs. Taub spoke about her family's experiences escaping Nazi-occupied France.  Taub said she and her family attributed their survival to the kindness of strangers.

The LRT were informed and inspired by two other speakers at their meeting. LUT President, John Caulfield, informed the retirees about the status of the current teacher contract negotiations as well as other news of interest. Also, LRT member, Rosemary Daly, spoke about her ongoing battle with cancer and a fundraising effort she is a part of called "Cycle for Rowie."

The fundraiser is part of Cycle for Survival, a movement to raise awareness and money for treatment of rare cancers. To learn more about their efforts, click here.
