LUT Elects Treasurer to Fill Vacancy

On Thursday, May 11, Stephen Austin won an election to fill the anticipated vacancy in the LUTofficer position of Treasurer. The vacancy is due to the announced retirement of current LUT Treasurer, Nancy LiVolsi. 

 

Without question, Stephen Austin has paid his dues while working his way up to a position as one of our union officers. Steve been a member of the LUT for 20 years and has served as a Building Representative at Division Avenue High School since 2018. He currently serves the union as an LUT delegate to the New York State United Teachers (NYUST) Representative Assembly, as a Trustee to our union’s Supplemental Benefit Fund and on our union Constitution Reform Committee. 

 

When asked about his feelings coming into the new position, Steve said, “I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve our union as Treasurer. I look forward to continuing to help keep our LUT strong and united.

 

Outgoing LUT Treasurer, Nancy LiVolsi, served as LUT Treasurer for the past 8 years and is ending her career in the LUT and the Levittown School District at the end of June. Nancy’s impressive career of service to the LUT includes not just time as Treasurer, but also as a Building Representative, Trustee to our Supplemental Benefits Fund, member of our contract negotiating committee and a member of our APPR committee. 

 

Nancy and Steve have worked together at Division Avenue for many years. In a letter of support for Steve’s candidacy to replace her as Treasurer, Nancy wrote, “Steve has consistently demonstrated his ability to be able to solve every building issue as well as other Union related issues. He has a keen eye for detail, and a deep understanding of the Union, as well as the financial aspect of being a treasurer. In addition to his technical skills, he is a natural leader who has earned the respect and admiration of everyone at Division, and beyond.”

 

Congratulations for running great campaigns in this competitive election go out to Andy Castle and Bernadette Bissoondial-Roaldsen. Andy and Bernadette have long records of service to the LUT and remain extremely important members of our union.

 

Because this election was to fill a vacancy, Steve’s term of office as Treasurer will be for the final year of Nancy’s three-year term. There will be an election for the position of LUT Treasurer and each of the other 6 officer positions in May of 2024. Congratulations Steve and best of luck in your new position.
