At the LUT Executive Board meeting on Wednesday, September 20, Helen Papayannakos was approved by the Executive Board as a Trustee of the Levittown United Teachers Supplemental Benefits Fund. Helen is filling the position on the Board of Trustees vacated by former LUT Treasurer, Nancy Livolsi, who retired last June.

The Levittown United Teachers Supplemental Benefits Fund (LUTSBF) is a benefit provided by the Levittown School District as part of our contract. The district provides the funding for the LUTSBF for the purpose of providing important services to the LUT membership. Trustees of the LUTSBF are appointed by the LUT President and approved by the LUT Executive Board to oversee the administration of the fund and make decisions regarding the allocation of fund resources.

Some of the benefits provided by the LUTSBF include dental and vision care plans, a legal services plan, and a life insurance benefit. For a complete list of all the benefits available to LUT members, click here to access the LUTSBF Comprehensive Benefits Fund Booklet.

For the past 6 years, Helen Papayannakos has been a music teacher at Lee Road. But her roots in the Levittown District go back over 20 years. Helen graduated from MacArthur High School in 2012 and attended East Broadway Elementary School and Salk Middle School. She brings a very important voice to the Board of Trustees, that of a member of the younger generation of LUT members who are taking a greater interest in the future of their profession and their union.

When asked about how she felt about taking on this new responsibility with the LUT, Helen said, “I am looking forward to the opportunity of being a Benefits Trustee. It means a lot to be able to work with the community that has given so much to me.”

The Director of the LUTSBF is Lisa Poggioli. The other Trustees of the fund are: LUT President, John Caulfield – Chairperson, Lynn Anderson LUT Treasurer, Stephen Austin, Janine Bridgwood, LUT Vice-President Middle Schools, Lee Gardner, and LUT Corresponding Secretary, Joseph Romano. If you have any questions about LUTSBF benefits, contact the Director, a Trustee, or call the LUT Office at (516) 769-5660 and speak to the Fund Office Manager, Gina Murphy.
