The Levittown Retired Teachers (LRT) held their Fall Luncheon on Wednesday, September 25 at Domenico's restaurant in Levittown.

The LRT was honored to have current member of the New York State Board of Regents, Roger Tilles, serve as guest speaker during their event.

Regent Tilles recalled his family ties to Levittown.  He told the LRT that a music teacher inspired his family to create the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University.

Mr. Tilles discussed his goal to make New Yokr State public schools vibrant and welcoming places for education. He noted his work in the creation of the Pathway to Graduation Through the Arts, and defended the work of New Yokr State educators in the face of attacks by politicians.   Mr. Tilles also outlined new educational goals for new York State, and discussed the status of the ongoing search for a new Commissioner of Education.
As a token of thanks, and to reward his love of music, the LRT presented Regent Tilles with a very special book, "Songs of America: Patriotism, Protest and the Music That Made a Nation," by Jon Meecham.

The LRT is already looking forward to its next meeting on December 11. This meeting will include a special performance from one of our Levittown Schools music groups.
